			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><br /><p style="text-align:justify;">As a fluid particle flows toward the leading edge of a cylinder, the pressure in the fluid particle rises from the free stream pressure to stagnation pressure. The high fluid pressure near the leading edge impels flow about the cylinder as boundary layer develop about both sides. However, the high pressure is not sufficient to force the flow about the back of the cylinder at high Reynolds numbers. Near the widest section of the cylinder, the boundary layers separate from each side of the cylinder surface and form two shear layers that trail aft in the flow and bound the wake. Since the innermost portion of the shear layers, which is in contact with the cylinder, moves much more slowly than the outermost portion of the shear layers, which is in contact with the free flow, the shear layers roll into near wake, where they fold on each other and coalesce into discrete swirling vortices (Perry et al,. 1982; Williamson and Roshko, 1988). A regular pattern of vortices, called a vortex street, trails aft in the wake. The vortices interact with the cylinder and they are the source of the effects called vortex-induced vibration.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><span id="more-321"></span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Vortex pairs will be shed a frequency fv given by the Strouhal number: fv=SU/D, in which: U = flow velocity, D = cylinder diameter, S = Strouhal number. This creates an oscillatory lift force F<sub>L</sub> at the frequency f<sub>v</sub>. The shedding of vorticed will cause cylinder vibrations, and the motion of the cylinder will influence the shedding.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">The reduced velocity and the inverse Strouhal number are closely related:</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">
<p style="text-align:justify;">For f<sub>v</sub>= f<sub>n</sub> we have that U<sub>red</sub> and 1/S are the same. Then if the flow velocity is gradually increased VIV will start. But it turns out that if the velocity is gradually increased the vortex shedding frequency will stay constant, so that it matches the natural frequency of the cylinder over a range of velocities. This is often referred to as ‘lock-in’ or ‘lock-on’ and is characteristic of VIV.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">lock-in in water: The vibrating frequency will increase through the lock-in range, presumably due to changes in the added fluid mass, and vibrations will occur over a wider velocity range. This means that now 2 different definitions for reduced velocity can be used: The first is based on the frequency at which the vibrations are actually occurring, U<sub>red,true</sub>, the second involves a reference natural frequency, e.g. the natural frequency in still water, yielding U<sub>red,nom </sub>and that the velocity in each test is divided by the constant (f<sub>n0</sub>D). Alternatively in each test one would use the frequency at which the vibrations were actually occurring, obtaining a narrower lock-in range.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Parameters are used to predict VIV amplitudes, the combined stability parameter:</p>

<p><strong>Concept</strong>: <em>Waves and current induced drag forces on the sea bottom. This leads to that bottom sediments (such as sand) is being transported.</em></p>
<p><em><span id="more-313"></span></em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">This process takes place on the beach, near the beach (swashzone and  and surfzone) and to water depths up to typically 70m.</p>
<p><strong>Transport Modus:</strong></p>
<p><em><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Bedload</span></em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Bed-load means that the sediments are transported (&#8220;dragged&#8221;) along the bottom. Another name of the sea bottom is seabed; hence the name bedload. You can think of bed-load as small stones or sand grains that are sliding and rolling along the bottom.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">
<p><em><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Suspended Load</span></em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">If the sediments are fine enough, they may be lifted up from the bottom so that they mix with the water. This is called suspended sediments and measured in unit concentration.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">
<p><em><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Sheet Flow</span></em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">This is a form for sediment transport that takes place under strong drag forces (strong waves or current). The sediments are moving like a carpet on the bottom. A similar phenomenon can be observed with snow a winters day with a little wind, the snow is moving as a carpet on the ground.</p>

Statkraft says the agreement with Atlantis secures the company access to cutting-edge expertise and a presence on the board, as well as exclusive negotiating rights regarding participation in material projects initiated by Atlantis to develop tidal energy in the United Kingdom and Canada.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Statkraft and Atlantis will also collaborate on licence applications for Scotland&#8217;s Pentland Firth, with licences to develop up to 700 MW of marine energy due to be allocated during 2009.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><span id="more-303"></span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">&#8220;The tidal power sector in Europe is poised for immense growth over the next decade and with Atlantis we will be well placed to secure a pole position in this market,&#8221; says Nicolai Gedde, Vice President Marine Energy at Statkraft. &#8220;Our investment in Atlantis supports our marine energy strategy, which calls for investment in developing tidal power technology as well as areas suitable for the construction of tidal power facilities. The relatively small scale of these facilities and their closeness to land mean that tidal power is well on its way to competing on cost with other new sources of renewable energy.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Since the number of good sites is limited, it is crucial that we make our move now,&#8221; says Bjoern Holsen, Statkraft&#8217;s Vice President Growth.Statkraft has been investing in tidal power for several years through its holding in Harstad-based technology company Hydra Tidal Technology. In December 2008, Statkraft and its Northern Ireland-based partners B9 Energy and Deepblue Renewables founded the consortium Thetis Energy Ltd to develop tidal power off the coast of Northern Ireland.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Tidal power is also an important element of the Ocean Energy Programme, a long-term R&amp;D programme initiated and partly funded by Statkraft in collaboration with leading Nordic universities.<em></em></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><br /><p style="text-align:justify;">Program &#8220;ITB Untuk Semua&#8221; adalah suatu skema penerimaan mahasiswa baru Institut Teknologi Bandung yang secara khusus menyediakan bangku kuliah bagi para lulusan sekolah menengah umum dari keluarga yang tidak mampu secara ekonomi dengan penghasilan kedua orang tua di bawah atau sama dengan Upah Minimum Regional setempat. Uang pendidikan, ongkos tempat tinggal, dan biaya hidup selama menempuh kuliah di Bandung akan didanai beasiswa &#8220;ITB Untuk Semua&#8221; . Untuk beasiswa ini, alokasi dana yang disediakan ialah 100 juta per anak untuk lima tahun. Dana akan diperoleh dari alumni ITB, baik perseorangan atau berkelompok. Alumni yang sudah bersedia menjadi orang tua asuh diantaranya Ir. Benny Subianto, Ir. Martiono Hadianto, Ir. Betty Alisjahbana, Ir. Karen Agustiawan. Sekitar 100 bangku kuliah disediakan secara khusus bagi para lulusan SMU angkatan 2009.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><span id="more-284"></span>Para calon penerima beasiswa akan mengikuti Penelusuran Minat, Bakat, dan Potensi ITB (PMBP) jalur beasiswa penuh. Sebelum kuliah, para calon yang diterima akan mengikuti masa persiapan untuk membantu penyesuaian diri dengan suasana kuliah serta kehidupan di Bandung. Selama kuliah, para mahasiswa program &#8220;ITB Untuk Semua&#8221; akan mendapat arahan dari pembimbing khusus untuk membantu menyelesaikan kendala studi dan persoalan personal yang mungkin muncul selama menempuh kuliah di ITB. Para mahasiswa juga akan diberi kesempatan mengikuti ceramah-ceramah inspirasional, studi banding ke lokasi-lokasi penerapan teknologi tepat guna, dan sebagainya. Para lulusan program &#8220;ITB Untuk Semua&#8221; diharapkan kelak akan menjadi agen perubahan di daerah asal mereka.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Persyaratan<br />
Para calon penerima beasiswa &#8220;ITB Untuk Semua&#8221; harus memenuhi persyaratan sebagai berikut:</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">* Calon lulusan sekolah menengah umum pada tahun ajaran 2009 (bidang studi IPA untuk fakultas Sains dan Teknik).<br />
* Berasal dari keluarga yang tak mampu secara ekonomi (penghasilan kedua orangtua di bawah Upah Minimum Regional setempat)<br />
* Memiliki prestasi akademik yang sangat baik.<br />
* Aktif dalam kegiatan ekstrakurikuler sekolah (lebih diutamakan yang memiliki bakat memimpin)<br />
* Mendapat rekomendasi dari kepala sekolah<br />
* Bersedia mengikuti ujian penerimaan yang dilakukan ITB
</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Bidang Studi yang Dapat Dipilih</p>

* Fakultas Teknik Pertambangan dan Perminyakan (FTTM),<br />
* Sekolah Teknik Elektro dan Informatika (STEI),<br />
* Sekolah Arsitektur, Perencanaan dan Pengembangan Kebijakan (SAPPK),<br />
* Fakultas Ilmu dan Teknologi Kebumian (FITB),<br />
* Sekolah Ilmu dan Teknologi Hayati (SITH),<br />

<p style="text-align:justify;">Cara Mendaftar<br />
Kirimkan berkas formulir pendaftaran (pada halaman terakhir leaflet ini, boleh di-fotocopy) dengan dilengkapi dokumen sbb:</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">* Fotocopy halaman depan rapor SMU dan halaman-halaman nilai (dari semester I hingga V) yang telah dilegalisir pihak sekolah<br />
* Surat keterangan berasal dari keluarga yang secara ekonomi tak mampu dengan ditandatangani Ketua RT/RW (Yang dimaksud keluarga yang secara ekonomi tak mampu adalah penghasilan kedua orangtua per bulannya di bawah atau sama dengan Upah Minimum Regional setempat. Kami akan&gt; melakukan survey lapangan secara random untuk mengetahui kondisi keluarga calon mahasiswa)<br />
* Surat dukungan/referensi dari kepala sekolah<br />
* Tulisan 1 halaman kertas A4 (boleh diketik atau tulis tangan) yang menjelaskan mengapa pendaftar ingin mengikuti program &#8220;ITB Untuk Semua&#8221;<br />
* Tulisan 1 halaman kertas A4 (boleh diketik atau tulis tangan) yang menggambarkan kondisi keluarga pendaftar [Misalnya, menceritakan pekerjaan orang tua, kegiatan pendaftar di luar sekolah, kondisi masing-masing anggota keluarga, dsb]</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Ujian Penerimaan<br />
Panitia seleksi tahap awal program &#8220;ITB Untuk Semua&#8221; akan melakukan penilaian berdasarkan berkas yang masuk. Penilaian meliputi:</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">* Kemampuan akademik<br />
* Motivasi (dilihat dari tulisan mengapa pendaftar ingin mengikuti program &#8220;ITB Untuk Semua&#8221;)<br />
* Kondisi keluarga (dilihat dari tulisan kondisi keluarga pendaftar)<br />
* Pengujian kebenaran data yang diberikan kepada pihak sekolah
</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Dari hasil penilaian tersebut, panitia tahap awal akan memanggil (melalui surat) calon-calon potensial untuk mengikuti Ujian Saringan Masuk (USM) jalur PMBP terpusat dan wawancara di kampus ITB di Bandung. Seluruh biaya transportasi dan akomodasi selama ujian akan disediakan oleh ITB. Ujian ini akan berlangsung pada 29 Mei- 31 Mei 2009.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Panitia akan mengumumkan penerima beasiswa (hanya calon potensial, yang diterima yang akan dikirimi surat) pada pertengahan bulan Juni 2009. Penerima beasiswa akan berkumpul kembali di Bandung pada akhir bulan Juni 2009 untuk mengikuti program penyesuaian diri.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Pada bulan Agustus 2009, penerima beasiswa &#8220;ITB Untuk Semua&#8221; mulai mengikuti perkuliahan di ITB.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><br /><p style="text-align:justify;">Diceritakanlah seorang pengembara berkelana hingga tiba di negeri viking nun jauh dari kampung halamannya di bumi khatulistiwa.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Negeri viking? yah begitulah adanya, negeri ini identik dengan cerita jaman dahulu kala mengenai viking yang sarat dengan kekerasan dan perompakan jauh dari cerita-cerita mengenai kampung halamannya yang terkenal sebagai negeri antah berantah yang kaya raya dengan sumber daya alamnya dan terkenal sekali dengan orangnya yang sangat ramah, namun itu sudah usang tertelan waktu.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><span id="more-231"></span>Apa yang si pengembara dapati di negeri viking yang dikatakan oleh kebanyakan orang sebagai negeri kafir, jauh bertolak belakang dengan apa yang ada di kampung halamannya, yang terkenal sebagai salah satu negeri berpenduduk muslim terbesar di bumi ini.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Apa sih yang membuat si pengembara berkesimpulan seperti itu? ternyata banyak hal yang dia dapati tatkala memulai pengembaraannya di negeri viking tersebut.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">contoh kecil adalah, ketika si pengembara akan menyeberang sebuah jalan, seperti kebiasaan di kampung halamannya si pengembara berhenti sejenak, menanti jalan kosong dari kendaraan yang lewat, namun apa yang dia dapati ? kendaraan yang tadinya meluncur dengan kencang, tiba-tiba berhenti dan mempersilahkan si pengembara lewat.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Sambil terkaget-kaget si pengembara berjalan dan bergumam di dalam hatinya, &#8220;hemm, andaikan di kampung halamanku bisa seperti ini, alangkah nyamannya berjalan kaki&#8221;.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Ada satu hal lagi yang paling berkesan di hati si pengembara, yaitu tatkala dia akan menunaikan shalat subuh yang kebetulan pada waktu  itu agak siang karena telah memasuki musim dingin.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Di sebuah gedung yg kebetulan agak ramai, dia menghamparkan sajadahnya di suatu sudut ruangan, si pengembara dan temannya bergantian untuk menunaikan shalat subuh.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Tatkala teman si pengembara sedang shalat tiba-tiba ada dua orang kakek-kakek lewat dan sempat menoleh kepada mereka berdua, terutama temanku yg sedang shalat itu, namun apa yang kami dapati? mereka tidak merasa kaget dan aneh, mereka berjalan seperti biasa.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Kontras sekali dengan apa yang si pengembara dapati di negerinya sendiri, yang tatkala itu si pengembara akan menunaikan shalat di sebuah Masjid terbesar di negerinya, terlihat ada beberapa orang yang merasa aneh dengan kehadiran dirinya, padahal mereka adalah sesama muslim.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Si pengembara merasa aneh, lalu ia teringat akan ungkapan yang dia dapati, &#8220;negerinya memang terkenal sebagai salah satu negeri yang mayoritas berpenduduk muslim, namun sangat sukar mendapati perilaku islami, kebalikan dengan pengalamannya di negeri viking, dimana si pengembara merasakan sukarnya mendapati seorang muslim namun hampir mudah mendapati perilaku islami&#8221;.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Si pengembara pun teringat akan arti dari sebuah surah dalam Al-Quran yakni surah 49 Al Hujuraat, ayat 13:</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em>&#8220;Hai manusia, sesungguhnya Kami menciptakan kamu dari seorang laki-laki dan seorang perempuan dan menjadikan kamu berbangsa-bangsa dan bersuku-suku supaya kamu saling kenal-mengenal. Sesungguhnya orang yang mulia diantara kamu disisi Allah ialah orang yang paling taqwa diantara kamu. Sesungguhnya Allah Maha Mengetahui lagi Maha Mengenal&#8221;.</em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Si pengembara termenung, sudah jelas apa yang di wahyukan oleh Allah melalui Rasull-Nya, bahwa manusia memang diciptakan berbeda-beda,  berbangsa-bangsa dan bersuku-suku, tidak ada bangsa yang lebih baik di muka bumi ini dan tidak ada pula suku yang lebih baik di muka bumi ini, hanya satu yang menjadi pembeda yaitu Taqwa yang menjadikan suatu bangsa atau suku Mulia disisi-Nya.</p>

<p class="artImgtext">WAVE ENERGY: The Pelamis units move with the waves up and down and from side to side, and are connected via subsea cables to the land-based electricity grid.</p>

<p>The company is located in Edinburgh in Scotland, and has developed the wave power unit, Pelamis. Pelamis is a Greek word meaning sea serpent.</p></div>
<p>The Pelamis units move with the waves up and down and from side to side, and water is pumped at high pressure to the hydraulic engines which drive the electricity generators.</p>
<p>The units are connected via subsea cables to the land-based electricity grid.</p>
<p>OPD has signed a contract with the Portugese company Enersis to build the world’s first commercial wave power park for production of electricity from the forces of the sea.</p>
<p>Initially, three wave power machines will be installed with a total effect of 2.25 MW, but more machines will be installed according to plan. The project is supported by the EU and Portugese authorities.</p>
<p>OPD is also involved in other interesting wave power projects outside the UK.</p></div>
